“Welcome back to part two of the belief triggers. I want you to think back to your high school days and remember a time your teacher assigned you an exam. You were told about it weeks in advance to give you ample time to study. When did you actually start to prepare for that test? It’s easy to think there’s plenty of time left until there’s not enough time. Remember we’ve been talking about the 15 belief triggers that people have a habit of falling back on. Let’s talk about belief triggered number seven. I have all the time in the world. Well, this belief trigger is kicked in for two reasons. One, we tell ourselves it won’t take that long and we tend to chronically underestimate how long it’s going to take us to do it, and then number two, we all overestimate the amount of time we have to do it. We say there’s plenty of time left. Well, when we plan, we don’t plan that anything different is going to happen. We think we have all the time in the world. This triggers procrastination and one of the great killers of us becoming the person we want to become is procrastination. How many times have you let yourself be distracted while taking this course even. Once, twice, multiple times? It’s so easy to become distracted, especially now. Phones ringing, emails popping up on a screen, client emergencies. It seems like there’s always something. When you sat down today to learn, did you plan for these distractions?”
