“How can we do a great job of successfully forecasting the environment? Well, if you think about forecasting, think of fishermen. Before they go out, they think “what’s the weather like?” “What’s the report?” Surfers think, “what’s the conditions of the waves?” They do a good job of forecasting. Well, how can we forecast our environment? We’re going to talk about three important phases that you can use to make a positive difference in your life and help you become a little bit more like that person you want to be as opposed to that person that’s created by triggers in the outside world. The first one we’re going to discuss is anticipation. The second is avoidance. Finally, the third is adjustment. Now, what does anticipation mean? Anticipation means, think ahead. Anticipate what could go wrong. If you want to quit drinking, don’t walk past the bar. Anticipate triggers that could pop up in our environment and think, wait a minute, this trigger has had a negative impact on me in the past and probably would again in the future. To the degree we can anticipate these triggers, we can make a very, very positive difference in creating change. After anticipation, the second important variable is avoidance.
